“The world-wide, web-based, 24/7, 3200 strong and counting, international eChapter is pleased to seat 61 delegates!” As Delegate Chair I was indeed pleased to record our seated delegates for the 56th Congress in Chicago. eChapter is the largest single Chapter and as such (with 75+ allowed delegates) puts us in the top four largest delegations (Florida, California, Texas).
My impression this year was no different than past years. The talent, knowledge and accomplishments of our perioperative nursing friends and colleagues in AORN is incredible and impressive. Many of whom are our fellow members of eChapter! At our Annual General Meeting on Sunday March 15 we recognized the eChapter members working on our behalf to improve and advance perioperative nursing practice as: Chair or members of national committees. task forces and Specialty Assemblies, past national presidents and Golden Gavel, Foundation Board Trustee and national award winners. It required several minutes, as there were quite a lot of us!
I must also recognize the “first-timers” – either as delegate and/or Congress. Thank you for jumping in with both feet and representing the Chapter. It is quite a bit to take in the first experience, but I hope you have “caught the bug: and will be delegates for many more Congresses.
This year we implemented a new strategy for keeping in contact with the delegation. Not only did this make it much more manageable for the Delegate Chair, but hopefully, it gave you a more personal connection to our Board members.
For me, Congress continues to be the yearly ‘re-charge’ for my perioperative soul. Seeing friends, connecting with colleagues and developing new relationships are main highlights. Validating my perioperative knowledge and practice as well as gaining new information and insights through educational sessions, exhibitor sponsored CEs and dialogue with colleagues is invaluable . Being a delegate provides an deeper involvement with the Association, participating in the decisions affecting our practice and selecting national leaders.
What more can I say, but, Well Done, eChapter!
