2009 - Pat Mews - Delegate Report

Pat Mews

I am very proud to have represented eChapter as a Delegate at the 56th AORN Congress in Chicago. Starting off with Saturday - what an experience seeing the river turn green

and the happy crowds celebrating St Patrick’s Day with the great parade. The AORN trolley represented us well, especially the large banner emphasizing “TIME OUT”, take time out for patient safety.

The luncheon was nice and it gave me the opportunity to see everyone in person and get and give hugs to those who have given so much to our chapter this year. Hearing the candidate’s speeches was inspiring and to see the talent we have within our organization is so motivating.

The Forums allowed us the time to discuss issues and the bylaws changes. I think as an organization we accomplished many of the proposed changes that were needed. Attending Congress as a Delegate always makes it extra special because you are in the heart of what makes AORN “tick”. In the last few years I have represented eChapter and it continues to energize me to see how many more delegates participate in the process. It is also exciting to meet someone who is attending for the first time and being able to mentor and guide them through some of the processes in the House of Delegates.

Much of my time was spent with the AORN Foundation and a great “BIG THANK YOU” for eChapter’s generous donation and from other chapters. The 5K Race was invigorating - Twilla, Patrick and I got it off to a great start. One of the oldest walkers was Jo Miller – 82 from MI.

The Quiz Bowl was loads of fun and it was great to see the winning team from my home state AZ.

Thanks to Linda for her leadership during the past year and all the work the Board has contributed to making eChapter such a wonderful chapter. Thanks to Cynthia for the excellent coordination of all the Delegates. It was an honor to represent our Chapter at the 56th AORN Congress.
