Instructions for eChapter Community of Practice (COP)
Navigating the eChapter Community of Practice (COP)
eChapter has a Community of Practice, a place on the AORN website where we can have discussions, chats, and share resources, information, and even photos. It is easy to access and easy to participate.

First, log on to the Communities of Practice Main Page

  1. Go to http://communities.aorn.org
  2. Log in (upper right) - if you'd like you can tell your computer to remember your login
  3. Choose “eChapter” from the list of COPs to which you have access.

    You can participate in discussions, take advantage of resources and valuable links, see photos of eChapter colleagues, and even arrange to chat.

    Your Profile

    1. First, be sure your profile is up to date.
    2. One of the green boxes at the top of the page says “My Profile”
      That will allow you to update your information and communicate any changes directly to the AORN database.
      If you make any changes, be sure to click on the green “Update My Personal Information with AORN” right under “MY PROFILE” . If you do not click the update button, your changes will not be saved.
    You can even upload a photo from your own computer(bottom of the profile page).
    1. Be sure that your photo meets these criteria:
      • Maximum file size: 40KB
      • Maximum dimensions: 300 by 300 dpi
    2. Locate your photo on your computer by clicking the “browse” button
    3. Once you’ve selected your photo, click “upload.”
    4. Your profile will be updated immediately
    When you have updated your profile, click on the blue house icon at the top of the screen to return to the COP home page; then click “eChapter” again to enter the eChapter COP

    Features of the eChapter COP

    Community Members Tab
    You can see the profile for any member of the eChapter COP.

    1. Click the “Community Members” tab
    2. Click on anyone’s name for his/her profile
    3. Click the “Community Home” tab to return to the main eChapter COP page

    Facilitators Tab
    Facilitators are those members who manage the COP
    Click on the “About the Facilitators” tab to meet them
    Again, click on the “Community Home” tab to return to the main eChapter COP page

    Notification Tab
    You can arrange to be notified when there is activity on any feature of the COP; for example, when someone adds to a discussion. Click the “Notifications” tab
    For each feature of the COP there is an option to be notified daily, weekly, monthly, or not at all.
    Be sure to click the “Set Notifications” box at the bottom once you’ve made your selections.
    You will receive an email (to the email address you have provided in your profile).
    Return to the main eChapter COP page.

    ACTIVITIES:

    Discussions
    The first feature of the COP is the Discussion.

    1. On the eChapter COP, you will see the most recent five discussion topics listed.
    2. You can click “View all topics” for a list of all current topics under discussion. Individual comments on the topic are listed in the order they were uploaded beginning with the initial posting.
    3. You can participate in any discussion by clicking on the discussion and then on “reply” below any comment.
    4. You can begin a new discussion topic by clicking on “Create New Topic” (also in the green box to the left of the discussion.) Your discussion topic will appear at the top of the list of topics (newest topic appears on top).
    5. To go back to the list of topics, click “view all topics” in the green box to the left of the discussion.
